Kg Fat & Kg SNF Calculator
Convert a milk quantity and its FAT and SNF into kilograms of fat and SNF — the basis for kg-fat buying used by many plants and BMCs.

How kilograms of fat and SNF are calculated
Kg SNF = (Litres × SNF%) ÷ 100
Total solids (kg) = Kg FAT + Kg SNF
Example: 100 litres at 4.0% FAT and 8.5% SNF gives 4.0 kg fat and 8.5 kg SNF — 12.5 kg of total solids.
To turn these kilograms into a payment, use the Milk Rate Calculator, or read how milk rate is calculated from FAT and SNF.
Frequently asked questions
How do you calculate Kg Fat from litres?
Kg FAT = (litres × FAT%) ÷ 100. For 100 litres at 4% FAT, that is 4.0 kg. Kg SNF uses the SNF% the same way.
What is kg-fat milk buying?
Many plants and BMCs pay by the kilogram of fat and SNF rather than per litre, so payment reflects the actual solids delivered.
